Social NeuroAI Hub — Where minds connect Où les intelligences se rencontrent The PPSP Laboratory is located at CHU Sainte-Justine, one of the world’s largest pediatric university hospitals. We develop the sciences and technologies that enable understanding of how diverse intelligences coordinate, develop, and support one another. Our approach: multimodal hyperscanning simultaneously records brain, physiology, language, and behavior of multiple people in interaction. Our goal is to explore cognitive and meta-cognitive potentialities and diversities. We create open-source tools, clinical protocols, and knowledge that together directly serve children, families, and healthcare providers. From lab to hospital, from science to health.

Project Context — PRISME

PRISME (Immersive Reality Platform for Monitoring and Measuring Clinical Expressions) is a research program at the PPSP Laboratory, dedicated to developing immersive tools to better understand cognitive and motor functioning in youth with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD).

Our objective: 👉 Reinvent classic neuropsychological tasks in XR to obtain finer, more ecological, and developmentally sensitive measures.

We transform standardized tests (fine motor skills, cognitive flexibility, attention, inhibition, visuomotor coordination…) into interactive tasks integrated into Meta Quest 3. Data are then combined with computational psychiatry models.

Your Mission

Design neuropsychological tasks adapted to XR

You will be responsible for the scientific conceptualization of future PRISME tasks, based on:

Reference neuropsychological tests (Purdue Pegboard, WCST, WISC, etc.)
Psychometric validity principles (reliability, developmental sensitivity, inter-individual sensitivity)
XR experimental constraints (interaction, ergonomics, over-stimulation, spatio-temporal calibration)
Computational metrics extracted in XR (variability, speed, spatial errors, trajectories, entropy, jitter, reaction time, intra-individual stability)

Concretely, you will:

1. Map existing tests

Analyze cognitive/motor objectives of each test
Identify underlying processes (executive control, sequencing, fine motor skills, sensorimotor feedback)

2. Define their XR transposition

Decomposition into XR action units
Identification of relevant XR affordances (simple interactions, natural gestures, virtual manipulation)
Proposal of 2–3 variants per test depending on cognitive or motor level

3. Describe relevant metrics

For each XR task:

Primary variables (main measures of construct)
Secondary variables (kinematics, accuracy, errors)
Stable performance indicators vs. experimental noise
Estimation of expected sensitivity (development, NDD profiles)

4. Produce PRISME scientific specifications

👉 Main internship deliverable A structured dossier including:

Cognitive logic of the task
Hypotheses on metrics
Implementation parameters
Experimental evaluation plan (validity, reliability, calibration)

These documents will guide the Unity and data science teams for implementation in PRISME.

Your Mission

We develop iOS applications for tablets intended for pediatric clinical research. These applications include neuropsychological and neurophenomenological tests, phenotypic questionnaires, assessment scales, metacognition tests, and cooperation/synchronization “games”. You will join a team that already has functional applications (like our iOS neuropsychology scales) with reusable authentication and CloudKit synchronization modules.

Manage data persistence with Core Data and synchronization via CloudKit

Supervision & Mentoring

Scientific supervisor: Guillaume Dumas (Laboratory Director) — Scientific vision, strategic guidance, networking opportunities. Monthly meetings + ad hoc availability.
Daily mentor: Rémy Ramadour (Research Engineer) — Daily support, technical review, practical mentoring. Weekly check-ins + near-daily availability.
Project team: 5+ people including another intern. Team rituals: weekly stand-ups, work reviews, collaboration.

Our Mission

Your Mission

HyPyP is the reference library for analyzing brain synchrony during social interactions — used daily by researchers worldwide. Your mission: transform complex data into beautiful and interpretable visualizations, following the approach of Shirley Wu who encodes multiple dimensions in innovative visual representations.

What you will do:

Development & Design

Improve existing visualizations in HyPyP (connectivity, synchrony, topographies, rejection mapping)
Create new representation modalities for multidimensional data (inspired by Shirley Wu’s approaches)
Develop reusable Python + D3.js scripts for interactive visualizations
Design figure templates for scientific publications (SVG, PNG)

Scientific Visualizations

Propose visualizations for neuropsychological and neurophenomenological assessments
Create representations for connectivity matrices and their temporal dynamics
Visualize information theory metrics (Phi ID, integrated information)
Develop topomaps and physiological synchrony graphs

Team Support

Support 4 PhD students in creating figures for their publications
Collaborate with the HyPyP development intern on visualization integration
Create a library of templates and visual guidelines for the laboratory

Impact: Your contributions will be integrated into HyPyP, an internationally used open-source library. You will transform how researchers visualize and communicate brain and physiological interactions.

We are looking for two complementary profile types: developer/data scientist with aesthetic sensitivity, OR arts/design/communication student with solid coding foundations. If you feel “between two worlds”, this internship is for you.

Core Technical Skills

Data viz programming: Python (matplotlib, seaborn, plotly) and/or JavaScript/D3.js
Visual design: Mastery of design principles, demonstrated aesthetic sensitivity
Complex data: Experience with multidimensional data
Required portfolio: Portfolio and/or GitHub demonstrating your visualization projects

Valued Assets (non-mandatory)

Experience with neuroscience / physiology data (EEG, biological signals)
Open-source contributions
Experience with animation / interactive visualizations
Familiarity with the scientific Python ecosystem (NumPy, Pandas, MNE-Python)

Selection Process

Step 1: Application Screening (7 days) We evaluate motivation and alignment, technical skills, growth potential, and project fit. You receive a response within 7 business days, even if your application is not selected.

Step 2: Motivation Interview (30 min) Video conference or in-person (your choice). Open discussion about your background, motivations, career plan. What we evaluate: motivational alignment, career plan clarity, communication ability.

Step 3: Technical Interview (45 min) Commented portfolio review: you present your visualization projects. Technical discussion around a concrete lab case (communicated in advance): how would you visualize this data?

Step 4: Tie-Breaking Interview (optional, 30 min) If several excellent applications are balanced.
